IMPORTANT INFORMATION

FROM ST. PIUS X / ST. LEO SCHOOL

January 19, 2012

To All Parents and Friends of St. Pius X / St. Leo School,

Many of you know that all of the parishes and schools east of 72nd Street have been involved in a study by the Meitler Group from Milwaukee.  This group was asked by Archbishop Lucas to come to Omaha and help develop a strategic plan for the future of this area of the Archdiocese. As many of you have read in the Omaha World Herald there are some schools in south and eastern Omaha that are being suggested in the draft report to close and join with other schools under a new centralized system.  This is only a suggestion at this time with nothing finalized.  They also mentioned the following in the World-Herald article,

Catholic schools in what the archdiocese calls the urban northeast - Sacred Heart, St. Bernard, St. Cecilia, St. Margaret Mary, St. Philip Neri and St. Pius/St. Leo - would remain parish schools for at least five years, McNeil said.  If the new six-school system is successful, he said, those northeast schools could be brought into that fold.

Because of this statement we have been getting calls at school already asking us if we are closing in five years.  Please know that there is no intention to close our school.  We thank God that we have wonderfully supportive parents, parishioners and friends who help us to maintain a vibrant and extremely effective Catholic school.  If anything would ever change it is only that more schools might be asked to join the centralized system approach to managing the affairs of the schools east of 72nd.  We predict this to be something that won't happen for many years, if it ever happens.  We are already a two-parish school working together for the benefit of the young people of both parishes and other parents who wish to send their children to our school.

If you have any concerns or questions, please call us at 402-551-6667.

Thank you for your continued support of our school.
